What is LASIK?

The cornea, or the front part of the eye, is shaped so that when light enters the eye it is directed perfectly on the retina at the back of the eye to produce a clear, sharp image. When the cornea is not shaped correctly, light will not focus properly on the retina and your vision becomes distorted. LASIK reshapes the cornea using a laser to achieve that ideal shape to focus light precisely on the retina, giving you better vision. LASIK can offer freedom from glasses or contacts when reading, driving, and carrying out other everyday activities.

Is 55 too old for Lasik eye surgery?

It depends on many factors inside your eye. But we have done LASIK on patients after cataract surgery who were in their 80s

Are you awake during laser eye surgery?

Yes, but the procedure is painless and very quick. Some patients can be given a mild sedative if needed.

Can eyes get worse after Lasik?

Yes but it is rare. Patients can develop glare and halo and other complications so a thorough evaluation must be performed prior to surgery

Can I do lasik twice?

Yes but there are limits to how much you can shape and thin the cornea. Each patient must discuss this carefully with their surgeon.

Can I watch TV after Lasik surgery?

Yes but if the eye feels irritated or dry, you must limit keeping your eyes open immediately after surgery

Can laser surgery correct astigmatism?

Yes. You must speak with your surgeon to discuss the range of astigmatism correction

Can Lasik give you 20 20 Vision?

Yes and sometimes even better than 20/20

Can you be too old for Lasik eye surgery?

It is more dependent on the health of the eye rather than age. You must speak with your surgeon about your individual condition

Can you get 20/20 vision back?

Yes and sometimes even better than 20/20

Can you get laser eye surgery if you need bifocals?

Yes you can get monovision where one eye can be tuned for distance and one eye tuned for near

How can I improve my night vision after Lasik?

You need to speak with your surgeon to understand why your vision is being compromised. Night vision will always be more difficult than daytime vision

Can you go blind from Lasik?

Serious complications can occur with any eye surgery including LASIK but it is exceedingly rare

How do I know if Im a candidate for Lasik?

You must speak to your eye doctor because there are many parameters to look at

Does laser surgery leave scars?

Generally speaking, the laser for LASIK does not leave scars and it in fact used to remove corneal scars

How many days rest is required after Lasik surgery?

Patients should avoid doing anything strenuous for the first week after surgery

Does Lasik last forever?

The eye may change with age and may cause the patient to need a prescription for glasses or contacts after the surgery

Is laser treatment good for eyes?

LASIK/PRK is a wonderful procedure for the proper candidate

What is the success rate of laser eye surgery?

It depends on each individual eye and its parameters. However, LASIK is highly successful

Is laser vision correction surgery safe?

For the proper candidate it is a very safe procedure

Whats the worst vision that can be corrected?

That depends on many factors in the eye. Speak to you eye doctor to see if you are a candidate

What are the disadvantages of laser eye surgery?

Some patients can experience dry eyes, glare, halo, difficulty driving at night and fluctuating vision

Who can have laser vision correction?

What happens if you blink during laser eye surgery?

We usually insert an eyelid holder called a speculum prior to surgery to prevent the patient from blinking
